Group Leader: T.B.A Location: Newton & Wallacetown Church Halls (small hall) Day and Time: Tuesday 10.00am - 12.00 noon
This group was established in September 2010 being formed from the extensive waiting list of the existing OiR Photographic Group. For our start we met in Loudoun Hall in Boat Vennel, built in 1513 and the oldest building in Ayr, but full of stairs which became increasingly challenging to some of our members so we moved to the Prestwick Community centre.
Whilst excellent for most activities a lack of blackout abilities, essential for photography, caused us to look for an alternative location and we discovered the recently refurbished halls at Newton Wallacetown Church and decided to move there in September 2016. The room we use is warm and is able to provide the blackout condition essential for our meetings.
Trips and visits to local and distant photogenic locations are also a feature of our busy programme. Our day trips have included visits to the Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery in Eskdalemuir, New Lanark, 12th Century Stirling Castle, the Royal Burgh of Culross, Kirkcudbright on the Solway coast, South Queensferry, St. Andrews and Caerlaverock Castle the unique triangular 17th Century residence near Dumfries. To ensure that the full range of photography is covered we have also taken evening trips to the Kelpies, Glasgow University, Ayr College and a number of museums. Members and friends of the OiR are welcomed on our day trips and booking information is included in the OiR Newsletter and this website.
The Tuesday Photography Group meets in Wallacetown Church Halls (small hall) most Tuesdays at 10.00am until mid-day from September to April. Enquiries from new members are always welcome but joining is subject to a space being available.
Our photography group is sociable and the activities varied and fun. We have Photographs of the Month (POM), Jolly POM, Favourite POM and since lockdown there have been weekly activities.
